TRT Therapeutic Phlebotomy:
Therapeutic phlebotomy is the medical withdrawal of blood from a person's body in order to treat certain conditions and, in the case of patients undergoing TRT, it's used to regulate RBC count and lower risk for blood clots and possible TRT-related side effects.
Testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) can have a number of side effects, including:
Skin issues
Acne, pimples, whiteheads, and blackheads can be caused by increased testosterone production.
Breast changes
Some patients may experience breast pain or enlargement, also known as gynecomastia.
Prostate issues
TRT can cause the prostate to grow, which can make urination difficult and painful. If you already have prostate cancer, TRT can increase its growth rate.
Blood issues
TRT can increase the production of red blood cells, which can thicken the blood and increase the risk of stroke or heart attack.
Sleep issues
TRT can worsen sleep apnea, a condition where breathing repeatedly stops and starts.
Mood changes
TRT can cause mood swings, irritability, or hostility.
Sperm production
TRT can decrease sperm production or cause testicles to shrink, which can lead to infertility.
Other side effects
Other side effects include hoarseness, voice deepening, joint pain, back pain, and weight gain.
You should contact your doctor if you experience any of these side effects, especially if they are severe or don't go away. You should also contact your doctor if you have any of the following symptoms that you should report as soon as possible: Allergic reactions, Blood clot, Heart attack, Liver injury, and Stroke
